Rhinoplasty

Steven Robinson, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Nose contouring (also called rhinoplasty, nose surgery, nose reshaping, or a “nose job”) can give your nose and profile a more flattering appearance. It can also correct functional problems such as a deviated septum, breathing abnormalities, or a broken nose that failed to heal straight.

Nose surgery has been one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures for men, women, and children for many years, but the skill of your plastic surgeon is very important. At Ohio Plastic Surgeons, we have performed countless successful nose surgeries on our patients.

Rhinoplasty can effectively change both the size and shape of your nose and is always carefully tailored to your unique facial characteristics and wishes. Depending on your goals for your nose, rhinoplasty can:

  • Correct injuries, abnormalities, and breathing problems.
  • Reshape your nose.
  • Shorten a nose that is too long.
  • Make your nose more slender if you feel it is too wide.
  • Increase the size of your nose if you feel it is too small.
  • Reduce the size of your nostrils.
  • Correct a broken/crooked nose.

The changes you want may be substantial or subtle. Most importantly, your nose should look natural and be in proportion to the other features of your face.

Some people decide to have other cosmetic enhancements at the same time as their nose surgery, such as a facelift, mini facelift, chin implant surgery, neck lift, upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), lower eyelid surgery, BOTOX, Restylane, or Collagen.

What Happens During Rhinoplasty?

Unless your case involves extensive nose reshaping, your rhinoplasty procedure will be performed as an outpatient procedure in a fully accredited surgical facility. Dr. Robinson always makes sure an Anesthesiologist is present at all times to ensure your comfort.

While no two nose surgeries are the same, most require one to two hours. The skin of the nose must be separated from the bone and cartilage in order to shape the nose per your specifications and correct any abnormalities. Most of the time, incisions can be made inside the nose so that all scars can remain hidden.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Bruising, soreness, inflammation, and some occasional bleeding generally last at least a week after rhinoplasty, although mild swelling can last longer. This means that you may not be able to see the final results of your surgery for a while. You may need to wear splints and packing for a week or so to help your nose hold its new shape.

Most people are able to return to work and all but strenuous activities within seven to ten days, however. If you experience any pain after your surgery, you can take medication to ease your discomfort.

Your Free Consultation for Nose Surgery in Ohio

At your consultation, Dr. Robinson will talk with you about how you would like your nose to look. You will also see rhinoplasty before and after pictures of others who have had the surgery. Dr. Robinson will then take photos of you to serve as your “before pictures”. After your recovery period is complete, he will take “after pictures” and give you both sets of photos. It can be exciting to compare the differences. Of course, your photos will not be shared with anyone else unless you consent.

When you’re ready to have a more attractive nose, Dr. Robinson invites you to take that next step and schedule a free consultation to discuss rhinoplasty at our office, located at 4661 Sawmill Rd., Columbus, Ohio. You may contact us by the email form provided or call us at (614) 326-4661.
