Otoplasty

Steven Robinson, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

People born with prominent ears face embarrassment and are frequently teased throughout their lives. They often try to hide their large or protruding ears with long hair. Fortunately, there is a reliable cure for women, men, and children.

Dr. Steven Robinson is a board certified Plastic Surgeon in Columbus, Ohio who has been operating on both adults and teenagers with prominent ears for more than 15 years. Ear pinning (also called ear reduction, ear surgery, or otoplasty) is a permanent way to improve the shape and look of your ears or the ears of your teen.

If you are tired of hiding your ears or enduring jokes about them, or if your child is faced with disfigured ears, an otoplasty can be a life-changing experience.

What Happens During Otoplasty?

Ear surgery takes only about one hour to perform. Dr. Robinson places the small incisions on the back surface of the ear, where scars will remain hidden.

No two ear pinning surgeries are the same, so Dr. Robinson will customize your procedure based on what you need. If your ears are misshapen, for example, this can be corrected during the surgery. If your ears simply protrude too much, a small piece of cartilage is removed so that the ears can be positioned closer to the head with stitches.

Otoplasty Recovery

Patients are generally surprised that there is minimal discomfort with otoplasty, and the recovery time is fast. Most people are back to work or school in just a few days.

Any discomfort that you or your child feels after surgery can be managed with medication. You can expect some swelling and bruising, but this will subside after a week or two at the most. Strenuous activities should be avoided for a period of time, and Dr. Robinson will advise you when they can be resumed.

Your Free Consultation for Ear Surgery in Ohio

At your consultation, Dr. Robinson will talk with you about how you would like your ears to look. You will also see otoplasty before and after photos of others who have had the surgery. Dr. Robinson will then take pictures of you to serve as your “before pictures”. After the healing process is complete, he will take “after pictures” and give you both sets of photos. It can be fascinating and gratifying to compare the differences. Of course, your photos are confidential and will not be shared with anyone else unless you consent.

When you’re ready to say goodbye to prominent ears, Dr. Robinson invites you to take that next step and schedule a free consultation to discuss otoplasty at our office, located at 4661 Sawmill Rd., Columbus, Ohio. You may contact us by the email form provided or call us at (614) 326-4661.
