Liposuction of the Abdomen

Steven Robinson, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

While liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body (see Arm Liposuction and Neck Liposuction), the lower body is the most frequently targeted area.

The flanks can be a problem for both men and women. Excess fat here has been called many names, such as “ love handles,” “muffin top” or “spare tire.” Often, the accumulation of fat in the lower torso is out of proportion with the rest of the body and stubbornly resists weight loss and exercise.

Luckily, liposuction – one of the most popular and commonly performed cosmetic procedures today – can reduce excess fat and restore a slimmer, more proportionate appearance.

If excess skin needs to be removed and a larger area of the torso needs to be tightened and slimmed, a tummy tuck may be preferable. Dr. Robinson will advise you the best method for accomplishing your desired results.

What Happens During Liposuction?

This procedure permanently removes fat cells and contours your body. Dr. Robinson utilizes the tumescent liposuction technique, which employs a wetting solution that reduces swelling and bruising.

In most cases, only two small incisions are necessary so that there is a minimal trace of the operation. The fat is gently suctioned through a tube called a cannula, and the procedure usually takes only about an hour.

Dr. Robinson performs liposuction on an outpatient basis at a fully accredited facility with a board certified Anesthesiologist always present for your comfort.

Liposuction Recovery

One of the main advantages of the tumescent liposuction procedure over traditional liposuction is that it shortens your recovery time.

There is little discomfort after liposuction and only a small amount of bruising and inflammation. You are permitted to do whatever activities you desire after only a short time. You should even be able to work out after a week.

Your Free Consultation for Liposuction in Ohio

At your consultation, Dr. Robinson will talk with you about what you can expect from liposuction. You will also see liposuction before and after photos of others who have had the surgery. Dr. Robinson will then take pictures of you to serve as your “before pictures”. After the healing process is complete, he will take “after pictures” and give you both sets of photos. It can be exciting to compare the differences. Of course, your photos will not be shared with others unless you consent.

When you’re ready to look slimmer, Dr. Robinson invites you to take that next step and schedule a free consultation to discuss liposuction at our office, located at 4661 Sawmill Rd., Columbus, Ohio. You may contact us by the email form provided or call us at (614) 326-4661.
