The neck is an area where many of us accumulate extra fat as we age. This may be genetic (hereditary), or it may be related to excess weight. Some people can gain or lose weight unevenly so that certain parts of the body are out of proportion with the rest.

Liposuction is frequently the answer. Dr. Robinson regularly performs liposuction of the neck, or double chin, on both men and women.

If you have excess fatty tissue in your neck area but not a lot of excess skin that sags, you would most likely benefit from liposuction. If you have both excess fat and a significant amount of excess skin, a neck lift might be the better choice. During your consultation, Dr. Robinson will discuss all options with you and will advise you as to the best procedure to achieve your desired results.

Some people decide to have other procedures at the same time as their neck liposuction surgery. These include a facelift, mini facelift, upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, BOTOX, Restylane, and/or Collagen.

What Happens During Liposuction of the Neck?

Neck liposuction is usually performed using the tumescent liposuction technique. This technique utilizes a wetting solution that reduces swelling and bruising, and it speeds your recovery time.

The smallest possible incisions are made, and the fat is gently suctioned through a tube called a cannula.

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure and only takes about one hour to complete.

Neck Liposuction Recovery

Most people are back to work within a week after their neck liposuction procedure. While you can expect some bruising, swelling, and soreness after your surgery, there are few restrictions on your activities, and discomfort is minimal. Of course, you will be given pain medication to reduce any soreness you experience.

At your consultation, Dr. Robinson will explain everything you need to know about your procedure. You will also see neck liposuction before and after photos of others who have had the surgery. Dr. Robinson will then take pictures of you to serve as your “before pictures”. After your recovery period, he will take “after pictures” and give you both sets of photos. It can be exciting to compare the differences. Of course, your photos will not be shared with others unless you consent.
