Karen Farrell-Cruz – Advanced Clinical Skin Care Specialist and Educator

Karen Farrell-Cruz has been Director of Skin Care for Ohio Plastic Surgeons since 1997. She has brought years of expertise and extensive background in the beauty industry to her staff position along with other skills as a public speaker.

Karen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Temple University in Philadelphia, graduating Cum Laude Honors, and carries a full ‘skin, hair, and nail’ license in Cosmetology for the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

She has been an frequent speaker for the practice at Mount Carmel / St. Ann’s Hospitals, Ohio State University, Riverside Hospital, and the Ohio Health Dept. as well as at various business associations and networking organizations.

Karen specializes in chemical peels and has special interest in patients with acne, hyper-pigmentation, anti-aging, and hard to treat skin conditions.  Additional to her employment with Ohio Plastic Surgeons, she has worked or is currently involved as an Educator/Representative for the following companies; Edge Systems, Inc., a microdermabrasion medical equipment company; AGERA, a nano-tech clinical skin care business; A-Cutederm; an ‘over-the-counter’ pharmaceutical and skin care corporation; Visual Changes International, clinical skin care and chemical peel line; Revsion, clinical skin care and pharmaceutical company; Colore Science, mineral make-up; Sebastian International’s Trucco division of skin care and makeup.

Other career pursuits include that of consultant in business development, skin care education for medical offices and salons, and educator for advanced clinical skin care for professionals at the state and national level. Generally she teaches six CEU classes per year.

Karen is a former business owner of Spa/Salons in California and Philadelphia, P.A. as well as former manager for the Salon at Saks Fifth Avenue in metro Philadelphia. She has also worked as a movie extra, promotional product model, magazine print model, petite model and hair model. This experience led her to becoming a modeling instructor for John Casablancas, John Robert Powers, and Barbizon in Riverside and Beverly Hills California, Philadelphia P.A., and Columbus, Ohio. Over the years her fascination with make-up has taken her behind the camera to work as a make-up artist for print, video, and special occasions.
